Dave KellyMember for Bassendean and WA Labor Spokesperson for Water, Fisheries & Youth

About

Dave was elected as the Member for Bassendean following the March 2013 State Election. The electorate of Bassendean includes the suburbs of Ashfield, Bassendean, Beechboro, Eden Hill, Kiara, Lockridge and parts of Bayswater and Morley.

Dave has lived in nearby Bayswater with his family for the past 15 years. His kids go to local schools.

Before being elected to Parliament, Dave was WA Secretary of United Voice, the union that represents frontline staff in WA's schools, hospitals, childcare, disability and aged care centres along with cleaners, security and hospitality workers.

Dave has run campaigns including against the privatisation of Western Australia's hospitals and schools and for a better deal for cleaners.

Local issues are also important to Dave. Dave and a couple of others successfully ran a campaign to see that banking services were retained in their local area when the big four banks started to pull out. Today, after 12 years on the board, the community bank he played a primary role in establishing has two branches and is now one of the most successful in Australia.
